About the Team

Welcome to tryouts for the Eagan Dance Team. Winter tryouts are open to all girls that will be in 7th through 12th grade for the 2020-2021 school year.

Dance Team is a very UNIQUE athletic activity, which combines physical endurance, strength, and agility while entertaining and competing. This athletic sport requires an investment of time, money and dedication. Athletes will receive many valuable experiences from being a member of the team including conditioning, continued dance technique training in a variety of styles, how to work with a team and lead by example. Dancers will also learn the importance of sportsmanship and building positive self-image and confidence. We do not believe that you can put a price tag on the lessons learned and memories made while being in a dance team family. There’s nothing like it!

The Winter/Competitive Dance Team
During the winter season the team competes regularly and competition begins 4 weeks into the season. We work hard and we learn fast. Practice outside of practice time is needed for most members of the team in order to keep up. Think of it as “homework” for your team. Our team works hard, we strive to be our best, and we have fun at each practice working to better the team and ourselves. We are looking for athletes who are willing to work hard, are coachable, enjoy being a part of a strong team and want to better their best.

EDT is made up of 7th-12th grade athletes that compete at South Suburban Conference Meets, Invites, Sections, State. The season officially starts in the Fall and hopefully concludes with the State Dance Team Tournament in Mid-February. The JV season concludes on end of January. EDT will have combined schedules of 2 hour practices 4-6 days per week. All practices throughout the season are mandatory.

The competition season includes Varsity Jazz and Kick teams, Junior Varsity Jazz and Junior Varsity Kick and B-squad jazz teams. All dancers must audition for both kick and jazz in the winter. Varsity and Junior Varsity teams will be finalized at the Fall tryout. Teams will be selected in the winter based on skills and technique, execution, style and presentation. Membership on one team (i.e. varsity jazz) does not guarantee the same membership on another team (i.e. varsity kick). All practice dates are separated and organized by teams during the season.

The decision to become a dance team member is a decision to make a 100% commitment. Your family shares in this commitment providing transportation, support and volunteering throughout the season. There are also some expenses involved in participation on the dance team. A list of required and recommended uniform items are listed below. Dancers are responsible for purchasing some personal parts of the uniforms and other supplies. We do not wish to discourage individuals from trying out due to financial reasons. If you have concerns about the financial obligation, please contact Coach Nicole. Dancers and families will be expected to participate in team fundraisers throughout the season. We ask both the dancer and her parents to carefully consider what is involved in being on the dance team.

We look forward to a successful 2020-2021 year and hope you decide to be a part of our family! Our program continues to grow each year and we have an amazing group of talented young women. We are very excited and ready to make this a great year! This team is truly a family and we would love to have you join us!
